Using such technology as this, 1 tonne of
segregated municipal waste can generate up to 2.6 Mwh - 1 Megawatt-hour
is 1,000,000 watts for one hour, a significant energy output.
European statistics show that 4 tonne of waste
(with a calorific value of on average 105 Mj/kg) compares to 1 tonne
of oil or 1.6 tonne of coal being burnt to achieve the same electrical
output.
The benefit is that this form of fuel is renewable;
the process is much more environmentally friendly and efficient.
